What's with the name? Wars to Weddings is my story, my journey as a photographer...In 21 years as a photographer and photojournalist, I've covered just about everything from wars to weddings. With my camera, I want to tell your story too, whether its weddings, portraits, or special events...everyone has a story to tell!
I started out as an aerial combat photojournalist in the military where my job was to visually tell the stories of the brave men and women fighting for our nation. It was an amazing experience; and I wouldn't trade those 12 years for anything! I studied photojournalism at Syracuse University's prestigious Newhouse School of Public Communnication. I served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and I learned a lot about myself, and about how to capture storytelling imagery under pressure, no matter the circumstances. I truly believe my military experience has made me a stronger person and a stronger photographer today.
After leaving the military, I was hired as the Official Photographer for Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. After working for Rumsfeld, I continued working for his predecessor Robert Gates for his entire 5-year tenure. This was like having a front seat to history and I'm honored and humbled to have worked for these two great men. Since Secretary Gates left in 2011, I've been working as a graphic designer and focusing on growing my photography business. I'm also a proud wife and mother of two wonderful children ages 6 and 3!
So how did I go from photographing War to photographing Weddings? Fair question, it doesn't get much more different than that! About 19 years ago I hesitantly agreed to photograph a friend's wedding. I was petrified of messing up and ruining her special day, but I instantly fell in love! I focused on my craft, and I found that capturing moments under pressure, was just that...no matter what the circumstances! My approach is to unobtrusively combine fine art photography and photojournalism, to capture candid moments with an artistic flair. Plus I'm a diehard romantic and I felt humbled to preserve these memories for my friend and her family...ps, she loved the photos!
In addition to weddings, I'm available for portraits, special events, and destination/travel photography. I'm well versed in traveling having photographed in more than 37 countries. I'm a member of WPJA, Wedding Wire, NPPA, WPPI, I’m also proud to say that my work has been published nationally and internationally, including Time, NY Times, Newsweek and USA Today.
Thanks for viewing my work, I hope to hear from you!
